Wandering Tourist - San Pedro Island

On April 23 we went to San Pedro Island with the church VBS teachers and staff. San Pedro Island is due east of us and about ½ hour boat ride. The west side is coral beaches with crystal clear water. The east side is a rugged beach on the Pacific Ocean.

The departure area for San Pedro is in barangay Canipan. There is a cement road to the area and parking. However, parking is 50 pesos (about $1 US) for all day. There are usually several boat operators waiting around and will come to you when you arrive in the departure area. You haggle a price with an operator and agree upon a price. We paid 60 pesos per person for a round trip. They took us to the island about 9:00 am and picked us up about 5:00 pm. Don't be shocked if they are late to your arranged pick up time, ours was 4:30 pm, (Filipino time). You can also hire the boat to go around the island before hitting the beach.

You arrive on the west side of the island that is a coral beach and crystal clear water.

Flor's cousin owns a cottage and hut there that they rent out. We got to use the cottage and hut for a cut rate.

There are other huts and houses to rent and some you can rent for overnight.

The crystal clear water is great to swim in. Swimming out to the coral you can find all sorts of beautiful fishes. A pair of goggles is essential if you want to see the coral and fishes. I dive down about 10 – 15 feet in water that is about 30 feet.  The water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom. Someday we plan to get a GoPro camera so we can take underwater pictures.

The main drag of the island runs north and south and there are trails that go west to the Pacific side of the island. The Pacific side is rugged shore with tide pools were people can harvest mussels and shell fish. I think the Pacific side would be a great place to camp and we plan on camping there some night.

Thank you for following.
