Wandering Tourist - Panas Ingan Waterfalls

Wandering Tourist - Panas Ingan Waterfalls

After a recent trip to Oslob (see previous post) we felt that we should be able to find similar locations in Southern Leyte (except swimming with the whale sharks). So, when we find a location we like around Hinunangan and the neighboring Pacific town area, we are going to do a 'wandering tourist' post about it.

One of the sites we visited in Oslob was a waterfall. Since the country is mountainous, there should be waterfalls around Southern Leyte. We know of a waterfall south of St. Benard (about 1 hour south of Hinunangan) that we will visit later this year. A friend showed us a waterfall about ½ hour north of Talisay, where we are living, in barangay Ingan.

It was not like the water fall that we saw in Oslob, but it was a very nice area. You travel up a one-lane mountain road, almost a 4 wheel drive road. Where you are greeted by the sounds of the waterfalls, a lily pad pond and three sheds for picnicking.

The river above the falls is rocky, with a pool below the falls that is deep enough to swim in. Below the pool is more rocky river.

The falls themselves are not big, but the water goes through them fast. There is a spot that is like a waterslide. JJ had a good time going through the slide, but had to have a person there to help him. The current is strong and the water is over 6' deep. There are 2 big submerged rocks in the channel that would hurt if you slammed into them.

Once you get out of the current you can swim in the pool. The water is clear and cool.

We enjoyed a picnic lunch and JJ had a great time.

There is a caretaker that lives nearby, he will come down and collect a user fee. Fifty pesos (about $1) per vehicle or group, plus another 150 pesos (about $3) for the use of a shed.

It was a very enjoyable outing and we did not have to travel very far to see it.

Thank you for following the blog.

  2. Hi. This is way way too late, but the house is done and we're back in the US now but will be retiring there next year. We have a care taker who takes really good care of the house. Can't wait to go back. Thank you and I apologize for not responding soon.
